Picture Windows
The large picture windows that characterize the Sugar Bowl's pink facade are vestiges of the business conducted by the building's former occupant, Western Motor Service. In addition to providing battery check and break adjustment, Western Motor Service sold a variety of housewares, hardware, and gardening supplies. The windows minimized the divide between the exterior and interior, thus turning the whole store into a display window so passersby could eye the merchandise--a feature that was native to mid-century retail spaces.
